The Flat Interiority Audit
This one's for a very specific kind of stuck: when the plot’s moving, the scenes are landing, and something still feels thin. Not a craft-mechanics fix—a diagnostic for the gap between what’s happening on the page and what your character is actually experiencing while it happens.
Three steps, ten-ish minutes, built around one question: is the reader inside this character’s head or just watching them from a few feet back?
Interiority isn't a fixable typo. It's a pattern, and most writers can't see their own — you're too close to the work to know if you've written the essay-ish version of internal monologue or if it’s as immersive and engaging as it could be. This audit gives you a way to actually check, instead of just feeling uneasy about it.
Keep it on hand for revision: the same exercises apply whether you're 20,000 words in or staring down a full draft.
Happy writing!
